Hamlet Is A Misogynist

In William Shakespeare's renowned play, Hamlet, the title character has many different states of mind and personality changes. However, he consistently shows throughout the play evidence of misogynistic behaviour. Because Hamlet feels so betrayed by the actions of his mother, he begins to associate this betrayal with the actions of all women, which in turn causes him to treat Ophelia cruelly and unfairly. Hamlet's misogyny is shown in how he speaks to and about his mother, how he cruelly addresses Ophelia, and in how he refers to women in general. Hamlet shows many times in the play that he has a high disrespect for women, and uses his low opinion towards the female gender as a stereotype for all women. This, by definition could easily be interpreted as misogyny.

Throughout the play, the leading character of Hamlet behaves in a misogynistic manner towards the women in his life. However, many things he says in passing also involve misogynistic content. Hamlet appears to have a slight obsession with women being promiscuous to the point that he includes this in his analogies. "Must, like a whore, unpack my heart with words." (Act II, sc. Ii, l.58). Even though Hamlet could have easily used another analogy in it's place, he seemed to feel the need to mention 'whores' there. In discussion with Ophelia, Hamlet mentions how he believes that women are two-faced. "God hath given you one face, and you make yourselves another." (Act III, sc. i, l.144-150). Although Hamlet believes that Ophelia is deceitful, it is the word "yourselves" that proves to be misogynistic. Hamlet is referring to the actions of all women, not just Ophelia or his mother. Hamlet also believes that all women are out only to deceive men like himself. "It is but foolery but it is such a kind of gain-giving as would perhaps trouble a woman." (Act V, sc. ii, l.06-07). He refers to 'gain-giving' as meaning a feeling of anxiety or misgiving, which he is associating with women. It is proved several times in the play that Hamlet has a high disrespect for all women that he continually mentions in casual conversation.

Louis Riel one of the most controversial figures in Canadian history. Louis Riel was born in 1844 at St. Boniface. Throughout his childhood he learned to speak both French and English, and he studied to become a priest. However, he did not complete these studies, and moved to the U.S. to become a store clerk. But by 1868 he grew homesick and decided to move back to his Mtis homeland. It was in this year that he first set the stage for many historic events to follow.

Many people think Louis Riel was a hero, and many believe that he was a villain. In this essay I will discuss the matter, and all of the reasons that cause people to take up either point of view. Personally, I believe that Louis Riel was a hero, even though he did do some bad things. No one can be perfect, and what he did may have turned out for the better.

Louis Riel entered Canadian history in 1868, as an unofficial but greatly appreciated leader of the Mtis people. Canadian surveyors were beginning to make their way into the west, to survey and divide the land for settlers from Ontario and Quebec. But the Mtis people wanted to keep their traditional ways, and did not want to be forced to move. At the time, Louis Riel had just returned from the U.S., becoming homesick after two years away from his family. When the surveyors came to the Mtis lands, Louis Riel stepped on their chain and said to them "You go no further." It was this that began to lead him to rebellion against the Canadian Government, and to try and protect the rights of the Mtis people.

One of the first things he did was set up the National Committee of the Mtis. This committee was to decide how to protect the Mtis' rights and way of life. At first, Louis Riel had no thoughts of an armed rebellion, but committee was to decide how to protect the Mtis' rights and way of life. 'Mainstream Face-Off'

There may be a great deal of differences between rock and rap music, but believe it or not, they are really very much alike. Rock has been around as a form of mainstream music since the 150's, as to where Hip-Hop never made it into mainstream until the 180's. Even though Rock is generally thought to be a white person's music, and rap is thought to be African American music, they were both originated from the same source. That source was African American blues and jazz. Rock and rap use different types of musical sounds, drumbeats, and lyrical tones to reach out to people that understand what kind of lifestyle they are portraying.

Rock's musical sound is composed of guitars, drums, and vocals. It is more of a musically lyrical sound that generally mirrors the sound of the music being played. In the fifties, it was considered a rebellion for teenagers to listen to rock music. Its lyrics brought the idea of real life struggles, the fast-life, and partying to the general public. The adults of the time thought it was a terrible new thing that was sure to die out with time. Some places even banned rock music because of its so-called 'vulgarity'. Controversy and protest only made the music loved more by the younger generation.

In many ways, rap has gone and still is going trough the same struggles that rock did. Rap became a mainstream phenomena in the eighty's. It's another type of lifestyle known as 'growing up in the hood' that is portrayed. Rap is less musical lyrically than Rock, but is still used as a way of expressing struggles in life. Very much like rock, rap uses it's lyrics to reach out to the world and tell about what really goes on in parts of the world that aren't portrayed on television or in the news. Some rap music shows a great deal of anger and some a great deal of joy and satisfaction just like rock does. Just as rock did, rap has gone through a great deal of criticism from parents. Many thought of rap when it first was introduced as a terrible kind of music that would never last. Again, the more controversy and protest, the more popular it became.

The theory of continental drift is not based on trivial notions or unscientific resources that do not contain a reasonable amount of substantial and justified information regarding this topic. Instead, it is based on proper scientific-based resources and is the accumulation of many a theory from qualified geologists and scientists around the world. In this essay the geology of plate movement in relation to the history of the world as we know it will be explored.

The word tectonics comes from the Greek root to build.

According to the continental drift theory, the supercontinent Pangaea began to break up about 5-00 million years ago, eventually fragmenting into the continents as we know them today

According to the theory of continental drift, the world was made up of a single continent through most of geologic time. That continent eventually separated and drifted apart, forming into the seven continents we have today. The first comprehensive theory of continental drift was suggested by the German meteorologist Alfred Wegener in 11

According to the generally accepted plate-tectonics theory, scientists believe that Earths surface is broken into a number of shifting slabs or plates, which average about 50 miles in thickness. These plates move relative to one another above a hotter, deeper, more mobile zone at average rates as great as a few inches per year. Most of the worlds active volcanoes are located along or near the boundaries between shifting plates and are called plate-boundary volcanoes.

The movement occurred after 145 is postmodernism which had shown its powerful effects in every aspect of life. It's a movement that can't be defined with a simple sentence because postmodernism has lots of components and directions. A postmodernist reflects history's theological interpretations. When we talk about post-modernism is defined related to modernism as "the legalization of illegal parts of modernism". Modernity and postmodernity appear and reappear in philosophical, literary and other texts in what is at first sight as bewildering array of guises.

Postmodernism combines simultaneous fragmentation and blurring of boundaries in a universe where no absolute truth governs the definition of reality and morality. This is in contrast to modernism, which emphasize the coming together of the multifaceted, sometimes conflicting aspects the conflicts as the standard mode of existence. Unlike the consensus sought by modernism, postmodernism accepts discensus, and even proclaims that one unified way of seeing things is impossible.

Postmodernism undermines the modernist notion of what Jean-Francois Lyotard describes as meta-narratives, or over-arching, absolute stories that explain the nature of the world. One of the difficulties with meta-narratives is that they only present the world from one perspective, even when it may make sense from several different angles. Trying to force everything to be seen only through the eyes of one point of view is referred to as colonization. The team can be used abstractly or figuratively to describe imposing a certain view or interpretation of something, but it is derived from examining the political and social domination that has been exercised over smaller nations and minorities by Imperialism and ethnocentrism. Postmodernism tends to encourage placing value on the unassimilated other- on accepting and respecting differences and not oppressing the other.

The postmodern celebration of difference can be seen in the experimental nature of postmodern art, architecture, and writing. These forms usually take liberties with conventional forms, and often involve bricolage, which is combining different forms and styles in a collage-like fashion.
